SPN 501 (01) Senior Seminar with Thesis

Course Description:  Students will write an 18-20 page thesis paper pertaining to their chosen concentration within the Spanish B.A.: Literature/Culture, Elementary or Secondary Education, or Professional.  Progress will be assessed  at weekly group discussions, which meet once per week. Students will be guided in extensive outside research, presentation, and writing. This course is required of all Spanish majors.  Prerequisites: Three Spanish courses at the 400 level or the permission of the Department Chairperson.

 

Course Goals:

To develop advanced writing skills in academic Spanish.

To develop advanced oral and presentation skills in academic Spanish.

To provide undergraduates with the opportunity for in-depth study and research in their chosen concentration within the Spanish B. A.: Literature/Culture, Elementary or Secondary Education, or Professional.

 

 

Course Objectives:

To select, analyze and research topics related to their chosen concentration within the Spanish B. A.: Literature/Culture, Elementary or Secondary Education, or Professional.

To develop a solid thesis question to guide research.

To follow specific steps of guided and open-ended exercises that culminate in the writing of an original thesis paper in level appropriate and academic Spanish.

To find, document and use appropriate resources for the writing of the paper.

 

To actively participate in a peer review process of the work of class colleagues.

 

To give oral presentations and actively participate in class discussions that follow the seminar format and are conducted entirely in Spanish.

To actively participate in numerous written revisions of their original thesis paper at various stages of the research and writing process in level appropriate and academic Spanish.
